Electronic Arts is developing Project Gridiron, a standalone American football game featuring open- world co- op exploration and short matches, aiming to attract a new audience to the EA Sports ecosystem.

Electronic Arts is trying out something new with the football gaming market. They've got this project called Project Gridiron. It's not your typical football sim game.

EA's new standalone football title focuses on social interaction and open world exploration

In fact, it's completely different. They're trying to reach a wider audience by focusing more on social interaction and open world exploration instead of competition. Basically, they're trying to attract people who wouldn't normally play Madden NFL or College Football games.

Project Gridiron appears to be a very unique addition to the EA Sports line of games. It's different from everything they've done in their gridiron lineup of games. This isn't like a new expansion pack or update to some game.

This is a whole new, standalone game. The game seems to revolve around playing quick games and exploring a shared open world together.

Project Gridiron is still in early development so things are still up in the air, but it appears that the game will feature an open world where you and other players can go and explore places together. It's meant for quick matches as well. It's all about more casual or social play instead of long simulated football games.

The idea is for Project Gridiron to act as an onramp for new users to enter the EA Sports world. They can use these social elements as the onramp. This isn't a 3rd major football sim game, and it's not replacing Madden NFL or College Football.

EA's first public reveal of the game is supposed to be in summer 2027. Of course, that's subject to change during development.
