New Nvidia driver has been released and brought a new feature – Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) for PC Gamers but it breaks graphics of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 with visual bugs. The problem is important because it creates visuals bugs on the game in which textures become washed out and with chromatic aberration type artifacts. We can confirm that this bug happens on big game. It's one of few games that supports new ASD currently.
Fix washed-out textures in Modern Warfare 4 by forcing shader recompilation
So be aware. It's not a hardware problem. It's a side effect of new driver update.
First of all, Advanced Shader Delivery technology. ASD allows to download precompiled shaders to decrease time of compilation on hardware. The goal is performance improvements.
But it leads to graphics bugs in Modern Warfare 4 case with its particular implementation. Modern Warfare 4 is one of few games that currently supports new ASD shader delivery feature. It's a key test case.
But due to the limited support, even it's new feature. It has a kind of focus on some particular and high-profile games.
People who report it call visuals weird graphics or washed out textures. It changes visuals intended. One Reddit user (u/ryuugz) pointed out this kind of specific visual artifacts on related discussions.
It's like chromatic aberration but in fact. So it looks like shader preloading mechanism isn't initialized right for this game. It's rather some shader compilation errors than usual graphics bugs.
To resolve that, you have to force to recompile shaders in game. With some specific game settings and/or file management. One option – to restart Shader Preloading in settings.
And then fully exit the game and run again to make it compile shaders from fresh. Or you can remove shadercache folders in installation folders sp26 and cod26 to remove corrupted data. Then visuals should be correct again. After shader recompilation is OK.
