Story Kitchen has picked up movie rights to the psychological horror game MADiSON. This is a clear sign of the game's expansion into the realm of movie theaters, which has an important impact for the fans because it means the developers aren't just treating MADiSON as some generic thing but actually want to keep its visceral experience the way it was in the game. They're trying to bring to a passive environment the sensations of playing the game – the exact ones you remember.
Studio aims to translate visceral gameplay into a theatrical experience
This will be a planned theatrical release by Story Kitchen who have acquired rights from original developers Bloodious Games. Studio co-founders Dmitri Johnson and Mike Goldberg said their intentions are to keep the very unique feeling of the Bloodious world intact. They underlined that gamers remember how the story got to them emotionally and physically, and that's exactly what the movie team is trying to do to – to recreate this on the screen without undermining the base material.
As of now, there's no creative staff on this movie as there's no director or a scriptwriter or distributor to speak of, which indicates it's very early in its development stages. This probably means that the studio still hasn't come to the point where they can settle on the direction of the story and appoint the creative team yet. In addition, the lack of a distributor also means that there's no ETA or possible release regions at this moment.
Story Kitchen is also working on the movie version of several other big game brands such as Sifu, It Takes Two, Just Cause, Streets of Rage, Life is Strange, Tomb Raider, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, etc. So it's quite a lot of projects that showcase the studio's strategy of turning popular interactive entertainment into big screen cinema in various genres. MADiSON being one of the big names here as part of their overall strategy of connecting gamers and the movie audience.
