NVIDIA DLSS 5 release in Hogwarts Legacy draws player backlash for neutered Neural Rendering
GAMES

The official 5 update for Hogwarts Legacy was released by , and the community's response has been very negative. The general consensus is that this new software has minimal visual benefits over the old versions. The fact that this implementation is so narrow means that gamers have to choose between a safe and official option or an unsafe but more powerful unofficial mod.

Official update limits Neural Rendering intensity while community mods offer superior control

The official update introduces DLSS 5 for Hogwarts Legacy, but without the need for custom tweaks. NVIDIA has deliberately set a very low level of Neural Rendering intensity for this update. For official settings, there's only one switch.

There's no way to vary the intensity of image processing. This means that you cannot change things as you might expect from upscaling tools in general.

According to the community, the official version is rather weak. For example, one user wrote "Almost no difference. Disappointment, it turns out.

Due to criticism of the technology we've been given a practically neutered version so as not to create a fuss. I'll stay with the unofficial build." Another user says "There's so little difference that you have to enlarge the picture to notice. Not worth it."

You can always use an unofficial mod if you want stronger visual effects. With community mods, you can get much more noticeable effects in rendering. You can also adjust the intensity of such effects manually.

This is what makes the official version (with all the limitations) so different from unofficial mods (where you can do anything you want). If you want to get more visual quality out of DLSS 5, you'll have to resort to unofficial mods.

This is the first game that came out with this version of the technology. The next games that will get DLSS 5 will be War Thunder and Where Winds Meet on November 23, 2026. This release is a good example of a very restrained way of implementing the technology. It will be interesting to see if such a limited scope of implementation will be present in other major games in the future.
