Nvidia's board partners are no longer able to order new GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards. For potential buyers of the flagship GPU, this could mean a situation where supply suddenly becomes scarce. The fact that production of the cards is said to be stopped now leaves many questions open when it comes to availability in the future, for the demanding PC gamer who needs the RTX 5090 for top performance.
Board partners report inability to order GB202 chips and GDDR7 memory for the flagship GPU
What seems to be a problem for the RTX 5090 and its availability is that no more GB202 GPU chips and 32GB GDDR7 memory for the RTX 5090 can be ordered. According to AIB sources (anonymous) to der8auer, Nvidia's board partners are no longer able to order these parts and thus are unable to assemble the RTX 5090 any further.
Nvidia itself has dismissed rumors that the GeForce RTX 5090 would no longer be available, or that it is already End-of-Life. Instead, the limitation is said to be due to the crisis with limited availability of memory and components. The new RTX 5090 is thus not being intentionally removed from the range.
However, it is rumored that Nvidia is now primarily focusing on production for AI workstations for other needs. In addition, rumors point to an RTX 5080 with 24GB (maybe SUPER?) already coming in Q1 2027 as an alternative or successor.
We have also been following the GeForce RTX 5090 extensively. Here are some of the other reports about the RTX 5090 where Nvidia confirms that the RTX 5090 is not discontinued (despite limited availability). This only makes the situation with availability of the flagship GPU even more unclear.
