Fans of the original Silent Hill can now play the 1999 classic on PC without an emulator. An unofficial native port, created by developer SlickAmogus, is available for download. The port is playable from start to finish with correct 3D rendering, fog, and particle effects.

Port supports high resolutions and uncapped frame rates

The port targets the original PlayStation game and brings it to modern PCs. It supports high resolutions, high refresh rates, and uncapped frame rates. Players can use handguns, hunting rifles, shotguns, and melee weapons reliably throughout the game.

There are some known issues. The Chainsaw and Rock Drill weapons do not work. Some boss visual effects need polish, audio may loop incorrectly, and ending cutscenes are glitchy. Mouse support is not confirmed; the source states it does not seem to support the mouse.

To run the port, users must place the game data in a gamedata folder and rename the file to Silent Hill (USA).bin. The port is available now worldwide. SlickAmogus stated, “This will let you experience Silent Hill on PC without the need to use an emulator.” When we covered the last silent hill update, several of the same balance and stability themes came up.
