PC gamers with a taste for retro arcade shooters have a new way to experience Namco's Time Crisis without hunting for original arcade cabinets. The unofficial port of the 1995 title is now available for download, bringing a classic lightgun shooter to modern desktops. This release matters because it removes the hardware barrier, allowing players to enjoy the game with standard mouse controls or modern lightguns.

Retro lightgun shooter gains 4K resolution and native mouse support

The project, known as namco22-decompile, targets the Namco System 22 arcade hardware that powered Time Crisis and its sequel. It is hosted on the GitHub repository spacestate1/namco22-decompile. The port aims to replicate the original arcade experience on PC operating systems.

Technical upgrades include native support for widescreen aspect ratios and resolution scaling up to 4K. The software handles input from both standard mice and dedicated lightguns from the start. These features modernize the gameplay loop while preserving the original timing and mechanics.

Users must provide their own ROM files to play, as the project does not include in-game assets. The port is available for immediate download from the official GitHub page. This setup requires a bit of technical know-how but offers a definitive way to play the classic shooter on PC.
