MICROSOFT XBOX

This time they introduced a couple of new ways to access XBox Cloud Gaming which takes XBox Cloud Gaming further than just on XBox. This is important because it makes it easier to play Cloud Gaming when you don't have your own XBox gaming console or super computer. It opens up new devices for people to access the cloud game library. It's a more convenient way of playing subscription based games for the casual player and mobile user.

Two new access methods broaden platform support

The main focus of the new update to the service is to grow the ecosystem of devices and software platforms that are supported. XBox Cloud Gaming is a streaming video service that renders games on remote servers to send to the client device. They're trying to target people that are more likely to be using mobile phones, tablets and web browsers instead of the usual controllers.

There isn't any specific tech specs on these new ways to access cloud gaming right now. The announcement has a big focus on how the platform list is growing instead of new tech specs on devices that are being supported. So it's more about the new software compatibility and interface integration than actually new performance boosts.

They didn't go into any specifics around price points or new regions of availability in the initial report. They are just sticking to the usual subscription model. It won't cost you anything extra to get these new ways to access cloud gaming. So no surprises there for existing subscribers.

We had a lot of the same balance/stability topics come up when we talked about the last update for XBox Cloud Gaming. This shows they're increasing the user base by making incremental accessibility changes and not just upending the platform all at once. Steady growth of the cloud gaming footprint is the theme.
