Microsoft Xbox is adjusting its remote work expectations for employees in the Seattle region. The company has introduced a new requirement of four days a week in the office for employees. This impacts the working schedules of the gaming department employees on a daily basis. This new policy marks a shift from the flexible remote work models established during pandemic times.
New attendance policy requires four days in office for Puget Sound staff
The new attendance policy will take effect from Feb 1, 2027. The policy is aimed at employees residing in the Puget Sound region. The new attendance policy specifically affects employees living within a 50-mile radius of commuting for the Studio D. Microsoft wants to promote more collaboration among teams by bringing them in the same place. This new policy impacts Redmond region operations related to Xbox development.
The new policy sets a minimum requirement for the in-office presence. The employees will need to be in office for 4 days in a week. The policy doesn't apply to employees outside of the specific geographic zone.
Employees living more than 50 miles from Studio D are not affected by the specific mandate. Microsoft clearly defines the line of employees who need to be back on desk.
This new attendance policy is coming after few recent changes in the working procedures for Xbox. We talked about last Xbox update and there were some similar balance and stability related topics covered in it. This new update in policy focuses more on in-office attendance than remote work options.
Employees in the specific zone will need to adjust their schedule for this new policy. The new policy will come into effect in Feb 2027 for the specific employees.
