Community patch revives shut-down Mighty Doom on Android with doubled energy cap

Mighty Doom, the mobile shooter from Bethesda had their support for it come to a close in August of 2024, leaving the game a unusable state. The online-only nature of the game meant that with the servers offline the entire player base was now locked out. Luckily for everyone, the passionate community within the game's player base has now restored their game, by remaking the backend of the game. This means that Android players can now get their hands on their old game… albeit with some specific steps to be able to use the unofficial servers.

Enthusiast restores server infrastructure and improves gameplay mechanics

Financial-Plate-7122, a passionate enthusiast has created a modified client for this "Mighty Resurrection". This special software is required in order for players to access the community's servers. While the game is still available on Android, it now requires at least Android 10 (or later). Sadly you can't just reinstall the game from the store and get back into it.

Along with reviving the game, the community patch offers a few mechanical updates to provide a better gameplay experience. The energy cap for players has been increased from 20 to 40 units, giving a doubling in overall energy capacity. Along with this, players now recover energy faster, requiring 10 minutes now instead of 12 minutes to recover 1 energy unit. This means that players can now stay in the game for longer without worrying about energy regeneration.

With this revival the game has also changed up how it approaches monetization, removing any monetization hurdles that were present in the original version. All the advertisements that were previously there, are now gone within this community edition. You can no longer make any real world purchases to advance, instead using the in-game crystals for progression. There are no longer any pay-to-win elements like the official version had.

The revival is all thanks to the independent efforts of a single, passionate enthusiast in the technical aspects. Bethesda has nothing to do with this "Mighty Resurrection" project or the continued upkeep of the servers. Players looking to keep their progress alive will need to use this community effort to make that happen. Ultimately the game is still an unofficial version with a volunteer effort.

Good to see the community step up. Official servers died and this brings it back.

Does the modified client bypass the standard Google Play integrity checks or is it a sideloaded apk? I need to know if root is required for the handshake.

No root needed. It is a standard sideload. You just install the new client over the old one and point it to the new backend.
