Xiaomi begins rolling out HyperOS 4 to 31 devices globally, but the Android 16 base requirement excludes many popular mid- range models like the Redmi Note 13 Pro.

Xiaomi rolls out HyperOS 4 to 31 devices, but Android 16 requirement excludes many popular models
ANDROID

31 Xiaomi smartphones are now receiving HyperOS 4 in different parts of the globe, but many current users are not a part of the update cycle. If you have some older or certain mid-range smartphones, you should check your list of devices right now. Several popular devices will be completely cut out of this huge update. This is because the update needs Android 16 as the base and it automatically rules out devices with older Android versions.

Redmi Note 13 Pro and Poco M6 Pro 4G remain on HyperOS 3 as Xiaomi prioritizes latest silicon

HyperOS 4 is initially being rolled out to flagships and high-end mid-range smartphones. In China, the company is rolling out HyperOS 4 to phones like the Redmi K60 Pro or Redmi K70 Pro. In the global market, Poco X6 5G and Poco M6 Pro 4G users will soon see the update on their devices. These are some of the latest models in the Xiaomi hardware ecosystem.

Surprisingly, most of these cut-out devices still have great security updates on their side. For example, Xiaomi promises to give security updates to the Redmi Note 13 series until 2028. Meanwhile, Poco X6 5G is also going to receive security updates till at least January 2028. So, even with no new OS features, old smartphones are still getting security.

Many specific models will not be upgraded to HyperOS 4. They will stay on HyperOS 3. For instance, the Redmi Note 13 Pro, Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G, and Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus are not going to get HyperOS 4.

Similarly, China-specific Redmi K60 Pro and Redmi K70 Pro won't get HyperOS 4. Tracker XimiTime states that more than half a dozen smartphones are not going to get the upgrade at all.

If you remember the previous update of HyperOS, we talked about many of the same points of balance and stability when it comes to these cut-out devices. If you want to get the latest features, you have to upgrade your hardware. But if you are okay with stability, then you can enjoy your current device. Xiaomi continues to focus on the latest silicon for major software releases.

The Android 16 requirement is a hard wall. No surprises here. Xiaomi is moving fast.

Security patches until 2028 keep the Note 13 series relevant for basic tasks. The kernel stability matters more than flashy UI changes for most users.

Does HyperOS 4 actually drain the battery faster on the supported flagships, or is that just old rumor? I have a Poco X6 and I am waiting.

Early builds show normal drain. The baseband drivers are optimized for the new silicon. You will not see issues.

my k60 pro is stuck on hyperos 3 forever lol 💀

Security updates are not software updates. The interface stagnates. You miss the new multitasking gestures.

It is tough to justify buying a new phone just for the UI. ngl the security support is the real value here.
