Sony PlayStation Network accounts are reportedly being hacked with alarming ease. Attackers are said to need only a public PSN ID and one piece of old transaction data to take over an account.
Attackers exploit old transaction data
According to a user on social media, hackers contact Sony support with that information to change the email address and disable two-factor authentication. The method reportedly works against both random users and prominent figures.
Colin Moriarty, a well-known gaming commentator, said his PSN account was hacked as part of what he described as an ongoing sophisticated series of moves. He recovered his account after reaching out to his contacts at PlayStation PR.
Sony has not yet responded to the security issue. It remains unclear how the company plans to address the vulnerability or whether it will notify affected users.
