Microsoft canceled plans for an Xbox Game Pass family tier after facing pushback from EA. The company tested the service in Ireland and Colombia. The program allowed up to four users to access the game library together.

Publisher resistance derails four-user subscription trial in Ireland and Colombia

EA reportedly disliked the proposed family plan structure. Jez Corden stated that the situation was not Microsoft's fault. EA also limited its involvement with the Xbox Game Pass service to minimal requirements.

The publisher refused to include Xbox PC native versions of its games in the Play Anywhere program. EA also declined to support Xbox Achievements for those titles. This resistance contributed to the cancellation of the family tier.

Industry observers note that Microsoft scrapped the family plan after receiving negative feedback from major publishers. The company tested the concept in two regions before abandoning it.

The announcement comes from WindowsCentral. Details about future subscription changes remain unclear.
