Lucasfilm is searching for a new developer to make Star Wars Battlefront 3. This is big news for those who have been waiting years for a real sequel to the franchise. This comes after the release of Battlefront 2 from EA DICE back in 2017.
Rumor suggests two major studios are in talks to lead the sequel
The game received a lot of criticism over their microtransaction system. Perhaps this is an attempt to make sure they don't run into any of the same problems as before and Lucasfilm is turning to a different studio to make that happen.
As of right now it's still early days in terms of development and nobody is officially on board to make the game just yet. However, rumor has it that EA DICE and Bungie are the frontrunners for the gig. DICE was the developer for the last two in the series. Bungie is the studio behind Halo, Destiny and Marathon.
Industry reporter Jeff Grubb has been saying that Lucasfilm has been out there searching for a developer to work on the game. He went on to say that nothing is set in stone just yet but there are two big studios in the picture right now. He says it's still in the early stages of talk but not in development yet.
Since we don't officially know who the developer is anything could happen with this project. If Lucasfilm decides not to work with DICE again then Bungie could be the new developer for the game. This could affect the mechanics and how they go about the monetization with the new game depending on who the developer ends up being.
At this time all we know is that Lucasfilm is looking for a developer. There's no official announcement on who that will be or when the game will release. Players will just have to wait and see what's announced by Lucasfilm or the official developer, if we can find one.
