AMD Gainsborough APU leak shows Zen 6 cores, 24 GB DDR5- 9600, and a 2,400 MHz iGPU on OpenBenchmarking.

AMD Gainsborough APU Leaked With 2,400 MHz iGPU and 24 GB of DDR5-9600
PC HARDWARE

This is an engineering sample of ’s Gainsborough APU that appeared on Openbenchmarking website on August 7th, 2026. This particular leak provides the first real insight on what the APU offers. It's relevant as it addresses the need for a powerful handheld PC / compact gaming device that is gaining popularity. Folks that are interested in AMD’s mobile roadmap can now see AMD’s vision of next gen CPU + lot of on-die memory in action.

Engineering sample reveals Zen 6 architecture and high-speed memory

The test system reveals the Gainsborough APU running on the AMD GBR-FF6-SKT motherboard. We’re on Ubuntu 24.04 with 7.1.0 for a solid testing environment. The APU has model string of 100-000001930-12_Y, so we can follow this particular engineering sample across the tests.

Specifications

  • CPU Cores/Threads: 6 cores, 12 threads
  • CPU Clock: 2.4 GHz
  • CPU Microcode: 0x0BD0C000 (Family 1Ah, Model DCh)
  • Memory: 24 GB DDR5 at 9,600 MT/s
  • GPU Clock: 2,400 MHz

Gainsborough APU is a 6 core/12 thread part with 2.4 GHz base clock. It comes with 24GB of DDR5 @ 9,600 MT/s which is insanely fast. It uses 4 6GB modules from SK Hynix.

It’s designed for memory intensive stuff. The iGPU shows 2,400 MHz clock. It’s an insane clock speed for an iGPU.

Openbenchmarking tests show us the chip has 3,871 points in GiMark and 3,508 points in FurMark. 9,319 points in TessMark – we have some decent tessellation on the iGPU. CPU has microcode 0x0BD0C000. This is Family 1Ah, Model DCh.

This microcode is a reserved one for AMD Zen 6. What variant it is, it’s not certain.

Gainsborough name indicates that it’s Final Fantasy VII character Aerith, so it’s similar naming to what we have seen with SteamDeck CPUs in the past. We don’t know how much it costs or when it will be available from AMD officially for this engineering sample. But the benchmarks verify the Zen 6 IP is there, and can run at high clock speeds in an APU. That’s an important data point in terms of what we can expect from handhelds in the future.
