Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and saturating the market with playable content. We are bombarded with a myriad of demos as we get a first hand experience of what may soon hit our shelves within the next few months. This is a big deal, as we now have the ability to see what lies ahead, for indie and AA titles, before release. We now have a chance to demo games that would otherwise fly under the radar until the day they hit the market.
Valve's event expands to 8,000 playable titles for indie and AA developers
This digital showcase event is planned and organized by Valve, to display upcoming software in the Steam ecosystem. The festival is very much focused on independent developers, and smaller game studios. Triple A publishers play a less significant role.
Developers are using this festival to gain feedback, and drum up anticipation for their titles. We have the opportunity to get our hands on these games, while they're still being worked on and improved upon.
This year's edition has significantly increased in scale from previous years. This festival boasts over 8,000 different game demos that are ready for you to download right now. That's over double the amount of demos that were available during last years event. This creates an oversaturated marketplace for gamers and developers alike.
Certain titles have been grabbing our attention this year during the showcase. Castle Away and Emberville are some indie titles that are ready for us to demo right now. Wolf Among Us Remastered is an IP that we're familiar with, and they're showcasing an updated version. Some other notable entries include Deadzone Rogue 2, Slots and Skulls, CHARK, Neverway, Dark Roll 2, and ZWAARD.
We've been keeping our eyes on Steam Next Fest, and previously covered some of the entries. Such as the demo Spin To Breathe, that was released for the event. This festival is still a major way for gamers to discover new software.
You can dig through hundreds of genres without having to spend any money. By the end of the event, we'll get the option to purchase these games on sale, if the feedback is positive.
