CONSOLES

Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will be coming to switch 2 on October 23rd. The first time cod has hit a console in over 13+ years. The reason why it's important is because the Switch 2 version of cod will have , which completely changes the look of the game in terms of visual fidelity over previous handheld console iterations. This is new upscaling technology that we can now have on Nintendo that hasn't been on a Nintendo machine for this particular game.

Digital Foundry confirms superior edge treatment and detail sharpening over SMAA

The switch 2 version of Modern Warfare 4 supports cross play cross progression like other platforms. The upscaling for it that isn't just Nvidia DLSS, is Filmic SMAA T2X that was implemented by Infinity Ward as a in house upscaling solution. On top of that they are also using FidelityFX for Contrast Adaptive Sharpening, for the post processing effects. So this is what the Switch 2 version is getting in terms of visual standard.

Tom Morgan from Digital Foundry went over the switch 2 version of this and there are some clear pros for DLSS over Filmic SMAA T2X. He went on to say that DLSS has better edge treatment. So less stair stepping artifacts.

The way DLSS is better is it can deal with more chaotic stuff going on. Uneven stuff like textures and it can help sharpen the details on that. "cleaner lines essentially… once it kind of settles in". Tom Morgan stated. "You can see that door decals…and foliage both get a boost because of it."

Tom Morgan highlighted 2 things that are a maybe that will be determined in a final build analysis. 1. Could be a frame rate hit from having DLSS. 2. Potential visual artifacts with the IW Engine & Switch 2 with DLSS.

We went over the last Modern Warfare 4 update. We saw a lot of the same themes in terms of balance & stability. The full multiplayer launch is October 23rd.

Modern Warfare 4 is launching world wide on October 23rd. Every platform. The switch 2 version has Nvidia DLSS.

Also has Filmic SMAA T2X as upscaling options. Digital Foundry has confirmed that DLSS gives better edge treatment & detail sharpening better than SMAA T2X. It has cross play / cross progression support for other platforms.
