In its latest Half-Life 2 RTX update, Orbifold Studios made the game more approachable and more efficient in terms of rendering. Firstly, Windows on ARM is now supported, so the game can be played on the newer hardware architectures. Secondly, advanced frame generation settings are now available, and they lead to a major performance increase on modern graphics cards.
Update brings ARM compatibility and new DLSS frame generation modes
Half-Life 2 RTX update brings modern rendering technologies and better platform support to the Valve classic. First of all, the game now offers the possibility to switch on Windows on ARM support. So, now the game can be played on a wider variety of devices. Secondly, the developers added specific features of DLSS in order to better support frame generation.
The main technical novelties of the update are the following. DLSS Frame Generation Preset C is now available. It allows for better frame generation support on both GeForce RTX 40-series and RTX 50-series GPUs. On RTX 50-series hardware, there are also new x5 and x6 frame generation modes to get more FPS.
Another important technical innovation is a new rendering parameter – Sparse Rendering. It allows for fewer lighting samples being calculated. To restore image quality the game uses DLSS Ray Reconstruction due to the lower number of samples. In addition, developers resolved several graphical glitches to improve visual stability.
This Half-Life 2 RTX update offers modern upscaling and frame generation to a legacy game. Windows on ARM support makes the game available on a wider range of hardware. New frame generation presets and sparse rendering are very useful in terms of performance increase for RTX users.
