A new adventure point and click video game inspired by the 1980's British TV show, Knightmare is in the works. It's going to be a whole new experience for fans of the original TV show, that ran from 1987-1994. They hope to capture the dungeon crawling feel of the show, and modernize the mechanics of the show for today's PC world.
Free PC adventure game brings back original TV cast voices
And the game will be released next year in celebration of 40 years of the show. It will be a free experience for the community.
It's called Knightmare and it's being developed by The Knightmare Development Team. Their leader is Ewen Watson. And it's an officially licensed game.
They have the seal of approval from the creator of the show, Tim Child. They're even bringing back voice actors from the TV show to give the game voice acting. Like Hugo Myatt and Mark Knight.
And it's a dungeon crawling experience. One that looks and feels just like the old TV show. In fact, it's a digital reimagining of the TV show concept, for a new generation of gamers.
And all of the graphics are hand drawn by real people. Not AI. This game has no AI created graphics. "Everything you see and hear is made by real humans" says Ewen Watson.
They're taking pride in having everything be a pure art piece. They did change some things from the TV show to make it a better game experience. But they did take out the 'life force' mechanic. Which would punish the player for not eating food in the game.
"We want players to take their time and enjoy exploring" says Watson. So it takes the pressure of a survival game that the original show gave you. The game is going to be a freebie to play on PC.
So that's nice. No money needed to get into it. But all those original voices and hand-drawn graphics gives it a really unique retro feel.
The Knightmare game is just a faithful recreation of the British TV show on a PC. It's got the official licenses and the original voices of actors. But it does away with the punishment style of survival.
And it's all hand drawn graphics. So it's unique in that way. And it will be a free to play exploration adventure game. And you can expect it next year.
