Sony's Guerrilla Games is developing a Killzone remake, likely of the 2004 original, with external help from People Can Fly, pausing Horizon 3.

Sony is reviving the Killzone franchise after years of dormancy, a shift that matters to players who have waited for a return to its signature first-person shooter action. The studio behind the original games, Guerrilla Games, has moved its focus back to this IP following the cancellation of a different project. This change signals a renewed commitment to the franchise's core identity rather than exploring new intellectual property.

Guerrilla Games prioritizes shooter revival over Horizon 3 development

The development team at Guerrilla Games is currently working on this new Killzone title alongside an external partner. Reports indicate that People Can Fly is likely leading the external portion of the project, although this collaboration has not been definitively confirmed. The internal team remains central to the production, ensuring the game retains its specific design heritage.

Current information suggests the project is not a complete reboot but rather a visual uplift of an older entry in the series. The most consistent reports point to a remaster or remake of the original 2004 Killzone. This approach allows the studio to leverage existing gameplay foundations while updating the presentation for modern standards.

The decision to return to Killzone came after negative feedback forced the reboot of the Horizon Hunter’s Gathering project. Guerrilla Games paused work on that title to prioritize this new shooter. The studio plans to develop a third mainline Horizon game only after the Killzone project is fully completed.
