DC Studios is developing a Poison Ivy standalone show, and this move is a big change of direction for the studio in terms of how it wants to approach the DC Universe. This Poison Ivy show is a clear divergence from the interconnected world we’ve seen for Batman films of the past. This could open the doors to a whole new direction of creativity when it comes to the Poison Ivy character. If you’re at all curious about the live action content DC is working on, you need to know this series will be separate.
Standalone series diverges from Reeves' interconnected world
This Poison Ivy show won’t be part of Matt Reeves’ Batman world. Reeves’ movies have Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight. With that in mind, this Poison Ivy story is completely removed from Reeves’ Batman world.
This could mean a change of direction and tonal shifts for Poison Ivy, since the character wouldn’t be bound by Reeves’ world. Essentially, this separate project will give the folks developing this show more freedom to make the show exactly what they want.
At this time, we hear showrunner Lauren LeFranc (who created The Penguin) is in talks to work on the project as a producer. We don’t know for certain if she’ll be the producer for this, but the source has it that she’s in talks to do so. At the moment, this Poison Ivy project is in early stages of development. At this point, we don’t have any screenwriters or showrunners locked in yet.
News about Scarlett Johansson potentially being in The Batman Part II is not related to the Poison Ivy series. It’s made clear in the source that the new Poison Ivy show isn’t connected in any way to Batman’s world, where those rumors are happening. This is all meant to separate the development of this new Poison Ivy TV show from all of the other DC movie rumors.
