For the first time ever outside of Asia, The Pokemon Company has announced that they are opening up their own brick and mortar store for the first time ever in London. It's a big step away from their regional monopoly in retail as they'll now have a permanent shop in the UK for the first time. This is big news for people waiting around for legit merchandise for ages.
Permanent London shop marks first retail expansion beyond Asian markets
Pokémon Centre – London will be opening up by 2029. And this is the "first of several stores" outside of Asia. A clear shift in strategy away from the Asian region where their stores mostly operate.
For now they have a total of 20 official Pokémon Centre stores worldwide. 18 of these are in Japan, and there are also 1 store in both Singapore and Taipei. Now with the London store, that'll be added to that exclusive line-up. Of course it's only going to be the only one in Europe for now.
Not a whole lot of information on further openings. As in what countries we'll get a store. Or when exactly they'll be opening. So the people who don't live in the UK or in Asia are gonna have to wait and see what happens in the future.
So yeah, it's official. They're finally no longer just a distant dream away from Western physical retail. We've got a real place to go with the London store, but beyond that is still in the wind. They're definitely promising the UK store, but what's beyond that internationally is still up in the air.
