The Blood of Dawnwalker gets its first major update in early October, bringing a new difficulty mode that lowers the barrier for story-focused players. Rebel Wolves is reshaping the game's challenge curve to accommodate those who want to experience the narrative without the pressure of combat. This change directly impacts how players approach the game's core loop by offering a dedicated path for non-combat engagement.
Patch lowers difficulty barrier and fixes camera switching
The update restructures the difficulty settings by introducing a new Story mode that is easier than the current version. The existing Story mode will be renamed to Demanding, shifting the baseline challenge upward. Players will now choose from five distinct settings: the new Story mode, Demanding, Fair, Challenging, and Duelist. This expansion gives players more granular control over their experience, allowing them to tailor the difficulty to their preferred playstyle.
Game Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz explained the reasoning behind the new difficulty tier in a direct quote to Eurogamer. He stated, "We will introduce an additional difficulty level. but an easier one, because many people are asking for a more easy difficulty. The Story mode which we have right now will be a different difficulty – we will call it Demanding or something like this – and we will add a new Story mode which will be even easier for people who don’t want to experience the combat, they just want to learn the story and go through the game without this gameplay challenge." This explicit commitment to accessibility addresses player feedback regarding the game's initial difficulty curve.
Beyond difficulty adjustments, the patch addresses specific combat friction points and performance stability. The camera system will no longer automatically switch targets when the protagonist Coen stuns an enemy, a change that resolves issues with accidental hits during combat. Players will also find it easier to escape forced encounters with wildlife, removing the mandatory fights that previously interrupted exploration. These technical improvements aim to smooth out the gameplay experience while the new difficulty options cater to different player preferences.
The update is scheduled to arrive globally in early October, though an exact release date remains unconfirmed. Director Tomaszkiewicz indicated the launch will happen "somewhere in the beginning of October," leaving the specific day open to change. New Game+ mode is currently in development but is not expected to be included in this initial patch. We looked at the last The Blood of Dawnwalker update earlier while tracking the game's balance changes, and this new release continues that trend of refining the core experience.
