PlayStation 5 in jailbreak state can now run Windows PC games right out of Steam library without the need for PC streaming or running through Linux layers. This is important as it increases the number of games available to run on homebrew and offers unique security implications in how the credentials on the device are managed. Just as a warning to those interested in running local emulation, the tool is an alpha launcher with severe restrictions on anything related to online capabilities.

Playden alpha launcher enables local Windows game execution
The tool created by leolobato (Playden) is a sort of unofficial Steam client for the PlayStation 5. It works by using the prospero-win software, which is a version of Wine ported over to convert the calls in Windows applications to run on PS5 hardware. This architecture enables a way for PC binaries to run locally on the PS5 without needing any kind of streaming or complicated Linux setups.
- Direct3D Support: DXVK (D3D8-11), VKD3D-Proton (D3D12)
- Display Output: 120Hz, 4K resolution option
- Compatibility List: Half-Life 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Vampire Survivors, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Portal 2, Dead Cells, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Deep Rock Galactic
Playden uses DXVK for Direct3D (8-11) games and VKD3D-Proton for Direct3D 12 games to translate graphics. They added 120Hz support in version 0.6.0 and also added a 4K resolution mode as well as other display options. They offer the ability to import USB/FTP game files for an easier way to get games onto the system.
Half-Life 2, Portal 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Cyberpunk 2077 are some of the games in the compatibility list. The developer mentions that for Cyberpunk 2077 the performance shown is from 13 minutes of a quick controller test with no framerate info. There is no support for online multiplayer games or kernel anti-cheats, so most multiplayer games won't work.

Playden was released to the public (jailbroken PS5s) on October 12, 2024 (globally). It is important to note the developer is being very open that there is no encryption for steam sign in tokens on the device. So you take all the risk that comes with that, as Valve doesn't support this method of unofficial client.
This is the first time we are seeing anything like this become public that enables a way to run Steam games locally on the PS5 without using streaming. This is a way to get something working (limited, of course) for those who want to run PC games on their modified system. Of course, you gain library but lose most online features and have no encrypted storage of account credentials.
