ARC Raiders players can now engage in PvP without worrying that defending themselves will skew their matchmaking profile. Embark Studios released version 1.39.0 on July 28 to address community feedback about how defensive actions influenced player estimates. This change matters because it removes a penalty for players who only react to aggression, allowing them to play more cautiously without affecting future match quality.

Embark Studios tests full removal of defensive impact on matchmaking profiles

The update arrives on all platforms for the PC and console shooter. Embark Studios implemented this shift after previous adjustments in versions 1.36.0 and 1.38.0 showed that reducing the weight of defensive PvP was a positive step. The studio is now testing a complete removal of defensive impact on the playstyle estimate during this current test phase.

  • Version: 1.39.0
  • Console Update Version: 1.000.052
  • Release Date: July 28

Embark Studios explained the reasoning behind the change in a direct statement. The studio wrote, “Since Embark’s Notes on The Matchmaking System, one change has stood out with the community: defending yourself is no longer treated the same as starting a fight… The most common follow-up request we’ve seen is to remove the impact of Defensive PvP entirely – going from reduced weight to none at all. Starting now, we’re testing exactly that. During the test, only the fights you choose to start will influence your playstyle estimate, and defending yourself won’t affect it at all.” This confirms that initiating combat remains the sole factor for the estimate during the test.

The patch also includes audio refinements and bug fixes. The studio noted, “Improved footstep audio in water. Added more distinct Dodge Roll sounds and variations. Adjusted ambient audio for certain cinematics.” Players should be aware of known issues, including crashes on and Quick Wheel item swapping. The THE FINALS crossover event concludes on July 30, so players can still grab the Azimuth outfit and Archaeologist Backpack bundle before it ends.

We looked at ARC Raiders Hotfix 1.000.049 earlier while tracking item duplication exploits. The current update continues that trend by focusing on balance and stability. Embark Studios released version 1.39.0 to refine the PvP experience and fix technical glitches. Players can install the update now on PC and consoles.
