Jaymes Samuel has been confirmed as the director for the project. Jaymes Samuel has directed episodes for series such as The Boys and Invincible. Samuel's experience in episodic television may influence the film's narrative style.

The film will lean heavily into the cult classic game known for its iconic characters, acclaimed electronic soundtracks, and beat 'em up action. The project is based on the classic 1991 Sega game. The film will likely include music inspired by the original game's electronic soundtrack.

An early draft of the screenplay was written by Derek Kolstad in 2022 when Lionsgate acquired the rights to the film. Kolstad, known for creating the John Wick franchise, has since left the project. Pat Casey and Josh Miller have been hired to write the screenplay.

No further details on the Streets of Rage movie have been confirmed at this time. Details regarding the film's release and casting have not been disclosed. Further information will be shared as the project develops.
