PC HARDWARE

Acer has launched its Aspire X 16 laptop in the US market. It provides a configuration that is about 15% cheaper than the Swift 16 laptop for similar core specifications. This brings down the price for consumers who would like to get into a modern 16-inch OLED laptop but without spending on a premium tier. This move directly affects the mid-range laptop market as consumers looking to upgrade their main workhorse will have a more competitive price/performance ratio now.

Acer Aspire X 16 undercuts Swift 16 by 15% with Core Ultra X9 388H and 2.8K OLED

Aspire X 16 laptop is based on the Panther Lake Core Ultra X9 388H processor and integrated Intel Arc B390 graphics. This is aimed at those who require strong multi-tasking performance and moderate graphics performance for daily tasks. The configuration is packed in a 354.7×250.4×10.02-15.9mm chassis. It makes for a relatively compact package for a 16-inch form factor.

Specifications

  • Processor: Intel Core Ultra X9 388H
  • Graphics: Intel Arc B390
  • Display: 16-inch 2.8K OLED, 120 Hz, 500 nits SDR, 100% DCI-P3
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Storage: 512 GB SSD

The Aspire X 16 sports a 16-inch 2.8K OLED panel with 120 Hz refresh rate and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut. The display has a peak brightness of 500 nits (standard dynamic range). The laptop uses an 84 Wh battery.

As per the official figures provided by Acer, the laptop can offer up to 24 hours of video playback. The laptop features 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD. However, there were previous indications that the laptop might be available in 32 GB RAM + 2 TB SSD configurations.

The laptop weighs 1.6 kg. It is available in the US market at the moment. The price has been listed at $1599 from B&H Photo Video and $1649 from Acer.

Earlier, it was reported that it would be available in Africa, Middle East, and Europe starting July. However, we don't see it available for sale in these markets just yet. Earlier, we had covered the Acer Vero 16 laptop features an upgradeable CPU and 3K OLED display. This is part of a trend with Acer that they have been focusing on quality displays in their recent releases.

It is confirmed that Aspire X 16 is now available for sale in the US. It has the same Core Ultra X9 388H and Arc B390 as mentioned. The device is now available for purchase at these prices from authorized retailers. As of now, it is only available in the US in the 16 GB RAM+512GB SSD configuration.

is 16gb of ram enough for a 16 inch oled laptop in 2024? ngl i feel like we are already past that for a main workhorse.

it is plenty for daily tasks and moderate gaming. the arc b390 handles light loads fine but you will struggle with heavy titles.

24 hours of battery life is an official marketing claim from acer. expect real world usage to be half that with an 84 wh battery and 2.8k screen.

i love the idea of an affordable 2.8k oled panel. the color gamut looks great for creative work on the go.

unfortunately this us exclusive pricing. we will have to wait for july to see if it hits europe without a massive import tax.

the 15 percent discount compared to the swift 16 makes this a much more sensible buy for students. the specs are nearly identical.

1.6 kg for a 16 inch laptop is pretty light. feels like a solid portable option for the commute 👀

the core ultra x9 388h is a solid choice for multi tasking. i just hope the thermals in that thin chassis handle sustained loads without throttling too hard.
