GMKtec is teasing a new mini pc to be even smaller than their EVO-X5 Pro mini pc. A small form factor for those who want the upper end of the performance in a small pc. GMKtec is asking users to vote on the expansion layout of the mini pc which points to the possibility of either OCuLink or dual M.2 SSD slots as the final hardware configuration. This gives users an opportunity to vote before its release on whether they want external GPU support or max density in internal storage.
GMKtec asks users to vote on expansion options for a new compact mini PC
The unannounced hardware size falls in between other GMKtec models in physical size, having the same size of the EVO-T2s at 154x151x73.6mm. So far, GMKtec hasn't indicated what processor and GPU will be used but this size suggests that the upcoming pc will follow along the same lines as the EVO-T2s. We've been following GMKtec's new releases recently. Like their GMKtec Evo X5 Pro Mini PC to see how extreme they've been going in downsizing while still offering high specs.
Specifications
- Form Factor: Mini PC (smaller than EVO-X5 Pro, similar to EVO-T2s)
- Expansion Options: OCuLink port OR dual M.2 SSD slots
- Max Storage: Up to 16 TB (theoretical with dual SSDs)
- Processor: Unspecified (Intel Panther Lake or similar implied by comparison to EVO-T2s)
With two main paths to the upcoming hardware, storage setup can be the major differentiator. On one hand, an OCuLink port combined with 1 M.2 SSD slot is optimal for external expansion. On the other, a dual M.2 SSD slot setup is a way to potentially have 16TB storage space, maxed out with the largest size drives at the moment. Those that want to store massive data or media collections will benefit from the dual drive setup.
GMKtec is collecting user votes through X and Google Forms to finalize the upcoming hardware. They are calling the device 'Next GMKtec Mini Pc' so far without a specific model number or price revealed. The rest of the specs for the device haven't been given out yet so we don't know the exact CPU/GPU performance. The final hardware released will likely have one of the two expansion layouts, depending on the user vote.

OCuLink is the right move for a device this size. Dual M.2 slots in a chassis this compact usually means terrible airflow and thermal throttling on the drives.
16tb is wild but good luck fitting the drives in there without melting the motherboard 😂
Is the OCuLink port going to support PCIe 4.0 or is it stuck on 3.0 speeds? I need that bandwidth for my external GPU setup.
Likely PCIe 4.0. The EVO-T2s uses a modern chipset that supports it. If they drop to 3.0 the port is useless for high-end GPUs.
I just want to know if this thing has a proper fan curve or if it sounds like a jet engine under load. The form factor looks cozy for a desk setup.
I will only care about this if the price stays under 400. Anything more and I am just sticking with my old desktop.
The grey market prices for these are always insane in Europe. I will wait for a direct import to avoid the VAT hit.
dual m.2 or oculink is a tough choice but i prefer the gpu support 👀
