With Nintendo now reallocating development resources for a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Switch 2 – the next mainline 3D Zelda game will likely not arrive until 2029. So if you're buying in hopes of a new adventure with Zelda – then get ready for a few years before the next game. The amount of resources they need to spend on the remake makes it impossible to even begin the next project until this one is complete.
Nintendo EPD leads Switch 2 remake, pushing next 3D adventure to 2029
The remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be a Switch 2 exclusive and mostly handled by Nintendo EPD. This is the group that Nintendo fans are most familiar with. This is quite different from what other rumors were indicating where Monolith Soft was going to take the lead. It's likely Monolith Soft is there more as a support studio handling animations and open world work much like they did with Tears of the Kingdom.
Producer from Nintendo Eiji Aonuma recently mentioned that the younger folks working on the project haven't played the original Ocarina of Time. Aonuma says it's a great thing that these folks aren't familiar with it. It's refreshing for the creative process. The reason why this remake even exists is these young folks are trying to figure out how to re-do the game for modern controls.
Aonuma also mentioned that Koei Tecmo's Hyrule Warriors will affect how the next mainline Zelda game will look. So it sounds like they have plans for changing the type of gameplay we'll see in the future mainline Zelda games. They're devoting resources to the remake that makes the next game guaranteed to be at least 2029 at a minimum if they keep up the pace.

2029 is too long. I need a new 3D Zelda now.
Is the delay just because EPD is busy or are they waiting for Switch 2 hardware to be ready?
EPD is fully occupied with the remake. They need to finish that before touching the next project. That is the bottleneck.
