The Game Bakers is releasing a free content update for Cairn on October 29, giving players access to new climbing challenges without any additional cost. This DLC, titled 'On the Trail: Deep Water,' expands the game's vertical exploration mechanics and introduces a novel way to navigate aquatic environments. Players who already own the base game can download this expansion immediately to test their climbing skills in new settings.

New water soloing mechanic and three climbing areas arrive October 29

The update centers on a new mechanic called 'water soloing,' which allows characters to climb over water surfaces without taking damage or dying. This change removes a previous limitation and opens up new route possibilities in levels that feature large bodies of water. The developers created this mechanic to promote creative route planning and lessen difficulty in challenging vertical areas.

Cairn remains available on , PC via , Epic Games Store, and GOG, with a Switch 2 version scheduled for early 2027. The free DLC adds three distinct climbing areas that utilize the new water soloing mechanic. The new areas introduce novel puzzles and hazards that challenge player timing and precision.

This update alters team management during climbs and introduces new strategic elements to the gameplay.
