Epic Games released Fortnite Update 42.20, patch 1.000.232, on September 17, 2026. This update brings the Kingdom Hearts collaboration to Battle Royale and Zero Build modes. Players can now use Sora’s Kingdom Key weapon and Sea Salt Ice Cream consumable in matches. The change matters because it introduces a major crossover event that alters the loot pool and cosmetic options for the season.

Epic Games merges NA regions and adds Kingdom Key weapon
The update also overhauls the matchmaking infrastructure for North American players. Epic Games merged the NA-West, NA-Central, and NA-East regions into a single NA region. This consolidation aims to reduce latency by allowing players to select preferred subregions in real time. The company stated that this new matchmaking method removes the need to restart games when changing regions.
New Match Overrides now include Recovery, Level Up, Dynamic Storm, Super Shot, Big Boom, and Healing Overdrive. These overrides modify core gameplay mechanics for players who enable them. The game also refreshed its Loot Hacks, making the Hyperburst Pistol, Mammoth Pistol, Reaper Sniper Rifle, Deadeye DMR, Flowberry Fizz, and Rocket Ram hackable. Zero Build players gain access to new Pocket Items including the Shield Keg, Rift-To-Go, and Shield Bubble Jr.
Four new Sprites have been added to the Island: Pond Sprite, Crash Bandicoot Sprite, Blinky Sprite, and Birthday Sprite. These cosmetic additions expand the customization options available to players. Epic Games applied numerous bug fixes across Battle Royale, Zero Build, OG, Save the World, and LEGO Fortnite. We looked at the last Fortnite update earlier while tracking balance and stability themes.
The update confirms the arrival of the Kingdom Hearts crossover in Fortnite. It also finalizes the North America region merge and introduces new gameplay modifiers. Players can immediately access the new weapons, items, and sprites in supported modes.
