The unofficial PC port of Bloodborne now supports the NVIDIA DLSS tech to make a significant difference with the original console version. The fan-made mod opens the way for players to leave behind the frame rate caps that marked the experience on the PS4 platform for over 10 years. Now, PC users with the necessary hardware are able to enjoy Bloodborne at much higher frame rates, clearly showing how the current graphics cards are much stronger compared to the original hardware.
Fan mod adds DLSS frame generation to bypass PS4 frame rate caps
The modder, a member of the community called Super Medo, has added support for NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation within the game engine. As a result, the game can now render frames with AI upscaling and frame interpolation, which was not available at the time of the original 2015 game. The fan mod is aimed at the audience that would like to play the game on modern hardware, without waiting for an official release from Sony or FromSoftware.
The game has been tested on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, and the results show significant improvements at different resolutions and settings. The game runs at around 40 FPS at the 4K resolution with DLAA. If you turn on DLSS, in the Quality mode, the frame rate goes above 100 FPS.
In Performance mode, it goes up to 120-130 FPS. When playing at 1440p and using DLAA, the frame rate is around 130 FPS. At 1080p, the game can run at up to 220 FPS.
In the original PS4 version, the frame rate is limited to 30 FPS with problems regarding smoothness and irregular frame output. The fan-made port shows what the game is capable of compared to the original hardware, which cannot deliver the same experience. Neither FromSoftware or Sony announced that they are going to update Bloodborne or release a PC version in the near future.
This unofficial solution proves that there is a way to improve the experience with old games thanks to the modern GPU architecture. It offers a way to play for the PC users who don't want to rely on emulation or wait for an official version to be released. The mod is made by the community and there is no official support from the game publishers.
