Next chapter in the Cyberpunk 2077 is getting developed by CD Project RED with a large number of team members being previously modders in Cyberpunk 2077. This development aspect is quite important as it's a sign of community narrative based development design for the future sequel. It has been revealed that now there's approximately half of the quest development team members being the previous modders. Thus it's a kind of tapping into the creative minds based on what's already been showcased in-game through modding.

Ex-enthusiasts now build quests for the upcoming follow-up

The team right now is working primarily on the sequel which is in development but it does not have a launch window yet. There's a Quest Director (Pawel Sasko) who states that the modding is a good starting point for newcomers to the team. Players as modders can get familiar with game development mechanics through in-game engine. The modders from the community are being hired in large number for new title development with narrative design aspects in mind.

There's been recently an update v2.5 for Cyberpunk 2077 which has brought some current technology support and cosmetic items for the live game. In addition, there's some new Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 style content that's added with the patch to keep the current game relevant while sequel is in development. This shows how the team is still working on polishing the main game. Thus these additions offer some kind of immediate value to the current gamers while the next main title is getting developed.

There's no exact window or time announced by the publisher yet for the sequel release. At the same time, the current game is being constantly updated by CDPR with 2.5 update etc. while new project is being worked on. So anyone who's curious about how sequel is going to be can take a glimpse at the current quest development. As it's heavily based on previous modders, it might turn out something that could be easily familiar for the long term fans.
