TCL has unveiled the X11L SQD Mini-LED television, a new flagship display that pushes peak brightness beyond industry standards. The 85-inch model utilizes Super Quantum Dot technology to achieve a measured peak brightness of 10,931 nits. This figure exceeds the television's own rated peak brightness of 10,000 nits and surpasses the requirements for HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision specifications.

Independent testing confirms extreme luminance levels and power usage

The display features 14,400 independent dimming zones to manage contrast and light output. Testing by Vincent Teoh of HDTVTest captured the 10,931 nit peak using a Jeti Spectrodiometer. The television draws up to 155W of power when playing standard dynamic range content. It consumes up to 690W when displaying high dynamic range material.

The extreme brightness levels have sparked discussion regarding viewer safety. Commenters have questioned whether such intense luminance is safe for the human retina. No scientific consensus or official statement from TCL addresses this concern in the available reports.

This release marks a significant step in consumer display technology. The X11L SQD was initially shown at CES 2026 and became available for purchase shortly after. The high wattage requirements highlight the energy demands of pushing Mini-LED panels to these extreme performance levels.
