Ayn's new Odin 3 Portal is their new bigger version of the handheld meant for those who crave more battery life and emulation brute force over the svelte size of something truly portable. The Odin 3 Portal is meant for those who find the base Odin 3 is simply too small, or they just want something with a bit more endurance to go further away from a power outlet. This handheld seems purpose-built for the demand of a high performance and highly portable handheld running Linux without the worry of having to constantly hook it up to a power source.
Ayn expands its Linux handheld lineup with a larger battery and active cooling system
The Odin 3 Portal will be the bigger brother to the Odin 3 released late 2025. Essentially the same base architecture but bigger to accommodate a much larger battery source. It runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon Q8 system-on-chip which is the exact same as the Snapdragon 8 Elite powering many flagship smartphones. The Qualcomm Snapdragon Q8 processor is meant to help with heavy-duty tasks and be power efficient.
Specifications
- SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon Q8
- Battery Capacity: 9,000mAh
- Weight: 450 grams
- Cooling: Active cooling with quiet fan
- Controls: Hall Effect joysticks
The biggest change is the increase in battery capacity to 9,000mAh, an increase of 1,000mAh over the base model's 8,000mAh battery. This bigger cell is accompanied by an active cooling solution that has a quiet fan to help deal with heat when running at full blast. The controls have Hall Effect joysticks to help avoid stick drift and AG glass anti-fingerprint protection. All of this active cooling and more to help with performance and less throttling.
The Portal weighs about 450g, which is lighter than a lot of the Windows based competition like the Legion Go 2. Ayn says with the Snapdragon Q8, you'll be able to smoothly emulate a few of the non-modern AAA games on your PC. So that's saying it's built for non-modern AAA games on PC, not games that need the latest ray tracing stuff or the craziest frame rate. All about stable and playable with older or less demanding AAA games.
Ayn hasn't given us a release date or price for the Odin 3 Portal just yet. All we have is the specs and the general idea of what's coming. Those who want to go big will have to wait for more news about the release. Ayn hasn't said when they'll be releasing the new device.
