Sony's Xperia 1 VIII may be thicker than the company advertises. The official specification lists the phone's thickness at 8.3mm. However, a measurement from a well-known leaker suggests a different figure.
Leaker measures 8.59mm thickness
The leaker @OnLeaks measured the Xperia 1 VIII and arrived at a thickness of approximately 8.59mm. That is about 0.29mm more than Sony's claim. The discrepancy could be due to Sony measuring only the middle frame of the device, excluding the glass panels on the front and back.

Sony has not yet responded to the discrepancy. The company has not confirmed whether its measurement method excludes the glass panels. It remains unclear if the official thickness figure will be updated or if the leaker's measurement reflects the final retail unit.
The Xperia 1 VIII is Sony's upcoming flagship smartphone. The thickness discrepancy is a minor detail, but it highlights how different measurement methods can lead to different numbers. Consumers who prioritize slimness may want to wait for official clarification.
