The disappearance from social media of Xbox senior manager Brandon Stirrup following his vocal support of artificial intelligence (AI) use in the game development space is raising questions. The sudden deactivation of the manager's account has led to some theorizing about Microsoft's attitude towards internal dissent about the company's AI initiatives. This development highlights the tension between those in the industry promoting AI-based development and the general gamer's skepticism.

Microsoft executive Brandon Stirrup promotes AI coding before vanishing online

Senior Manager of Business Strategy for Xbox, Brandon Stirrup, took to X to argue that the gaming industry needs to leverage artificial intelligence in order to remain relevant. According to Stirrup, he was able to construct a basic game in three hours using "vibe coding" and AI prompts. This was intended to demonstrate the power of AI in game development.

Stirrup was essentially saying that those who don't jump on the AI train are preparing for a future that doesn't exist. In essence, plans without AI are pointless if you're looking long-term.

Stirrup was emphasizing the fact that anybody can make a game now using basic prompts. "I'm telling you, I've tried and I'm convinced, it's true. Anyone can make a game." Essentially, Stirrup's argument was that developers can make games to your liking. All the things you want are here. "for better or for worse." In other words, artificial intelligence is a tool that can allow anyone to make a game.

Following these statements, Stirrup deleted his X account. According to Stirrup, it was due to the public outcry of criticism that he was suddenly facing. It's not known if this prompted any disciplinary action towards the manager by Microsoft. However, considering the fact that the manager's account was immediately deactivated after the wave of criticism, it's safe to assume that there was a connection.
