Liquid Swords, the video game company, has declared bankruptcy. This news comes with very real consequences for the studio's employees and the future of their game, Samson. Roughly 30 workers are out of a job after working on the action adventure game.

Studio shuts down after Samson release, Swedish state covers unpaid wages

Swedish authorities will step in to make sure these employees get paid for their back wages. The studio's abrupt shut down comes after they released their first game earlier this year.

Liquid Swords was founded in 2020 by Christofer Sundberg. He co-founded another studio that created the Just Cause series. The team worked on their open-world action game, Samson for the past five years.

They released the game for PC on and Epic Games Store in April of 2024. They later launched the console version in September of 2024. The studio wanted to make a game that would be as perfect as possible. But there were some technical issues with the release.

Things have been a bit rocky for Liquid Swords leading up to their bankruptcy. They laid off some of their staff back in February 2025 before the final shutdown. Samson has been met with mixed reviews from players.

There are a lot of bugs and performance problems that they've had. Sundberg did give a statement about how challenging it was to get the release out. But he's proud of what the team tried to accomplish with the concept.

It's a very unfortunate situation, Liquid Swords said. They are in the worst possible position. Sundberg said that they had to let go of some great members of the team.

But there is no other option. They've started the formal separation process. The Swedish state will be stepping in to pay the unpaid wages to the staff members.

As for Samson, it's still for sale on various digital stores. Their website and support likely won't be active anymore.
