Phasmophobia has hit an impressive milestone with 30 million sales on PC and consoles since it entered Early Access in 2020. Kinetic Games, the studio behind the game, has seen a massive leap since starting out as a one-man project in the founder's parent's home. The news comes as Crimson Eye's Halloween event returns to give fans something to do right away while Kinetic Games works on what's next.
Developer pushes full launch to late 2027 following massive sales milestone
As of October 8, 2024, Kinetic Games has officially announced that Phasmophobia has sold 30 million copies. The developers also shared some news about upcoming release schedules for the game. They also let us know that the full 1.0 version is now slated for the latter part of 2027.
This pushes the game's release from the anticipated window of 2026. This extra time should give the team a chance to really improve the game before it's fully released.
The current Crimson Eye event is available until November 1. The event makes some notable gameplay tweaks to the normal game. It includes blood moon weather and faster ghost speeds.
These changes come with an increase in the rewards in the game. It's a more intense cycle for players who are enjoying the seasonal activity.
In addition to the event and the new release schedule, Kinetic Games is branching out its business with Kinetic Publishing, a new publishing label. Contact Protocol is the first title for Kinetic Publishing. It's set to launch in Spring 2027.
Some fans have been mixed about the recent updates. A few folks on Steam are saying that the seasonal activity is just a grindfest, not an exciting new thing.
The team at Kinetic Games has been looking back at the wild success of the game. They didn't even expect to sell 1,000 copies in the first year of the game. CEO Daniel Knight said it's crazy to think they have sold 30 million copies. Now the team is just focused on delivering the 1.0 version as they work through this new release schedule with all the additional players.
