Digital Sun's upcoming game, ReVamp, has had its public Steam playtest cancelled. The main reason behind the cancellation is that the developers are worried that it'll get reverse engineered and cloned with AI's help.
Studio shifts testing to Discord and delays public launch to January
That way the game won't be stolen from the hands of evil before its release. For now, the first playtest will be limited and behind closed doors.
Instead, they'll be hosting a smaller group of players on Discord for testing the game. That starts on October 29 and is much safer from any public leak.
The Steam playtest public version is now pushed back to around January. "We've been concerned by recent news of games being reverse engineered, cloned and published before the original is even out. With launch still months away a large public build of ReVamp felt like too big a risk." That's what they said to be referencing some recent industry worry about AI's use to copy upcoming game projects.
Making it too much of a risk to have a huge public build available so long before launch. Here's what Digital Sun had to say about their security concerns.
"We're keeping ReVamp's first playtest small for now. Here's why." The team is just opting for a more secure and smaller window of time.
So it looks like they're pushing the public test until January instead of October. Making security a bigger priority than letting it be publicly available early.
