RedMagic introduces a 1TB version of the Chinese Gaming Tablet 5 Pro for mobile gamers who want to house their huge libraries without worrying about external drives. Such a model is especially important as it doesn't have a microSD slot. This means that the internal storage is your only option if you want to play big games. If you're a tablet gamer who wants to play top games, here's your answer to storage worries.

New high-storage model ships in China with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

The new model with more storage has the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. It has a 9.06-inch OLED display with a 185Hz refresh rate and a 2,400×1,504 pixels resolution. Such a display aims at users who want to enjoy high quality visuals for competitive gaming.

RedMagic gives this model 16GB RAM and an 8,300mAh battery for longevity. It has a price tag of 6,999 CNY (~$1,047). That's around $1,047. Clearly, this is a high-end offering for China.

The 1TB variant is, for now, a Chinese Gaming Tablet 5 Pro exclusive. The global version, which is the RedMagic Astra 2, has a maximum 512GB storage capacity. We'll see if RedMagic makes the 1TB storage available for the global version or not.

The Gaming Tablet 5 Pro with 1TB storage started selling in China on November 9. That's 8 pm local time. The move comes after we reported on the last update of the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro.

It was mainly about balance and stability. This new model cements RedMagic's place in the high-end Android gaming tablet market.

The lack of a microSD slot makes the 1TB variant the only sane choice for anyone using this as a primary media device. I suspect the kernel storage managers will throttle performance once that NAND fills past 80 percent.

Does the global Astra 2 really stop at 512GB while the Chinese model gets double? I would love to know if RedMagic plans to fix this disparity for us.

It looks like they are keeping the 1TB tier exclusive to the Chinese SKU for now. The global version might get a bump later but there is no official word on that yet.

That price point of 6,999 CNY is steep when you factor in the import duties and VAT for European buyers. The grey market price will likely be much higher.

185hz on a tablet is wild but idk if the gpu can sustain it in heavy titles 😅

I will wait for a discount. These launch prices are always inflated for the early adopters.
