Visual Concepts, the developer behind NBA 2K and WWE 2K, conducted layoffs on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. The studio let go of an unknown number of employees, including software engineers and game designers.
Affected employees share experiences online
Affected employees shared their experiences on social media. Game designer Anna Hodges said, "After three years and some change, my time at VC is at a close." Another game designer, Nina Marotta, wrote, "Last week, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder that will shorten my lifespan. Today, while on a sick day because of said autoimmune disorder, I was laid off."
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Visual Concepts, has not commented on the scale of the layoffs. The number of employees affected remains unclear.
The layoffs come amid a broader trend of workforce reductions in the video game industry. Visual Concepts is known for its long-running sports franchises, which continue to release annual titles.
