The root cause is a driver conflict between Windows 11's USB-C Connection Manager Interface and Intel's Innovation Platform Framework Processor Participant Driver. Microsoft identified this specific interaction as the trigger for the system instability and prioritized a fix over standard update cycles.
The company distributed two distinct patches to address the issue across different Windows 11 editions. Hotfix KB5121767 targets Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2, while KB5121768 addresses Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024. Both updates resolve the underlying conflict that caused the hardware to misbehave.
The problem primarily affects select Dell PCs equipped with Intel processors. Symptoms reported before the fix included unintentional shutdowns, poor performance, increased heat, and increased battery drain. Microsoft withheld the problematic driver from affected systems to prevent the issue from occurring until the hotfix was available.
