The developers of League of Legends at Riot Games are doing a midscope rework on the champion Mel. This rework changes the way projectile matchups work. The rework takes away a significant amount of defensive power.

Riot Games deletes Mel's W reflect ability to improve projectile clarity

It means players must take more care over positioning and timing instead of resorting to reactive blocking. This has significant implications for those who like to play Mel as a main. They have to reconsider how they approach engagements solo and teamfighting.

The rework is focused on Mel's W skill. Officially called 'Rebuttal' this skill is being reworked while retaining the basic framework. The core functionality is being taken away where it previously allowed you to bounce back incoming attacks against their source. What this means is that Mel shifts from a reactive defensive champion to a more proactive combatant who needs to engage in order to stay alive.

The specific changes involve outright deleting the mechanics that allowed Mel to reflect projectiles. You still get to use the ability for other purposes but it will no longer be possible to reflect the attacks of ranged champions back on them as damage. Mel will be less survivable when it comes to facing a champion who relies on frequent harassment from range.

This was one of the topics discussed during the last update to League of Legends. We've seen a focus on stability and clarity with respect to kits in the past. In this case, it seems Riot is trying to cut down on the frustration of dodging projectile attacks with just one ability. They're aiming to make the interactions with projectiles more clear for everyone involved.
