Microsoft has expanded its Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) technology to Windows 11 PCs with RDNA 3, RDNA 3.5, or RDNA 4 GPUs. The feature is now available in public preview through the Xbox Insider Program.

ASD reduces shader compilation from 90 seconds to 4 seconds

ASD reduces shader compilation time in Forza Horizon 6 from about 90 seconds to 4 seconds, a 95% reduction. Microsoft tested the technology on an AMD Radeon RX 7600 GPU and an AMD Ryzen 7 5800 CPU. The system requires Windows 11 version 24H2 or later, the latest AMD Adrenalin drivers, and the game must be downloaded from the Xbox app or Microsoft Store.

The public preview is available globally. Users need to enroll in the Xbox Insider Program to access it.

ASD handles shader compilation in the cloud, downloading precompiled shaders tailored to the user's hardware and driver setup. This approach also reduces shader stutter during gameplay by avoiding just-in-time compilation. The technology currently does not support GPUs and is not available on .

Microsoft has not confirmed when ASD will support additional hardware or leave public preview.
