Google has announced Wear OS 7, the next version of its smartwatch operating system. The update is expected to arrive later this year for devices including the Pixel Watch 4.

Interactive widgets replace full-screen tiles

Wear OS 7 promises up to 10 percent longer battery life. It replaces full-screen tiles with interactive widgets available in two formats. Workout apps can optionally use Google's system app UI for consistent heart rate monitoring and music playback during exercise. A Gemini API allows third-party apps to integrate with the AI assistant and be controlled by voice. The music player now supports streaming to multiple devices via Google Cast or Bluetooth. Watch face development is also easier, along with minor performance and UI improvements.
