There's a new graphics backend on Mac's version of the RPCS3 emulator called KosmicKrisp, which solves some serious visual problems. This is important because the old graphics driver was having frequent graphical problems that were interrupting peoples' experience with it on Apple Silicon Macs. In short, this update should make things easier for users to emulate PlayStation 3 games on their Mac hardware.

New Vulkan driver replaces MoltenVK to solve visual glitches on Apple Silicon

This new graphics backend is called KosmicKrisp and is a Vulkan driver which is built on top of Apple's Metal 4 API. This new backend was added by the RPCS3 team to replace the older one, called MoltenVK, which they say was causing a lot of problems. So now they can take advantage of some newer macOS graphics technologies.

The new graphics driver, KosmicKrisp, needs macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later to work. If you're still using an earlier version of macOS you can use the old MoltenVK graphics backend. If you want stability, go with that one instead.

But as the RPCS3 Team officially recommends to get the best experience. So this is a step in the right direction for macOS users.

The RPCS3 Team says that they fixed the graphical issues with KosmicKrisp, which does improve graphics over what it was before. This update comes out as new models of Apple's MacBook Pro with OLED displays are released. We saw some similar stuff in terms of balance and stability when we wrote about the last update to RPCS3.

Replacing MoltenVK with a custom Vulkan layer on Metal 4 makes sense. The translation overhead was likely the bottleneck for graphical stability.
