CONSOLES

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 received a significant update for PlayStation consoles this week, addressing long-standing multiplayer host selection issues. This patch changes how matches are distributed across PS4 and PS5 systems, which matters to players who want stable connections on modern hardware. Iron Galaxy deployed version 1.04 for PS4 and 1.004 for PS5 on July 17, bringing a total download size of 4.7 GB.

Iron Galaxy patch prioritizes PS5 hosting and fixes crashes

The update targets specific technical flaws that have plagued the port since its release. Activision stated that public multiplayer matches will now prioritize PS5 hosts and will no longer fall back to PS4 hosts. This shift ensures that players on the newer console generation get the hosting priority they expect.

Activision detailed the technical changes in their official patch notes. They wrote: "A new update has been deployed following the recent XP progression fixes with additional improvements across both titles, including: Public Multiplayer matches will now prioritize PS5 hosts and no longer fall back to PS4 hosts; Additional protections against host migration workarounds; Controller deadzone behavior updated to align with the original PS3 versions." The patch also fixes crashes that occurred when players entered multiplayer and then backed out of lobbies.

Several game modes and features remain in flux or broken. Domination and Demolition game modes have been restored to the playlist, but XP exploits might not be fully resolved yet. Persistent issues include sending invites, partying-up errors, sniper issues in the predecessor title Black Ops 1, and matchmaking problems. Offline bots remain unavailable, and we have not verified if party-up functionality is fully working.
