Ubisoft adds Shrek to Brawlhalla. The update brings stable 90 FPS combat on Steam Deck, though menu navigation drops to 22 FPS.

Ubisoft added Shrek to Brawlhalla, giving players a new way to enjoy the crossover fighter on handhelds. The update introduces the well-known green ogre and his companions to the arena, enhancing the appeal for users seeking portable multiplayer entertainment. This news matters because it tests how well the title runs on portable hardware while featuring high-profile licensed characters.

Ubisoft update brings Shrek and stable handheld combat performance

The latest Brawlhalla update introduces Shrek as a playable fighter, along with other characters and decorations from the franchise. The author noted seeing characters from Star Wars and Adventure Time in the same update cycle. This includes the one and only Shrek, Fiona, and Puss in Boots as selectable options for players.

Performance on the Deck shows mixed results depending on what the player is doing. In all of the fights I played, the game would stick to 90 FPS without dropping. Combat performance remains stable and responsive during gameplay on the handheld device.

Menu navigation results in significant framerate drops that may detract from the user experience. Navigating through some menus does drop the framerate pretty heavily. It can sometimes go down to 22 FPS, stuttering as it loads in other entries. Players should expect smooth combat but choppy interface movement on Steam Deck.

The Shrek update is now live for all Brawlhalla players. The game runs acceptably during fights but struggles with menu responsiveness on portable hardware. This combination of new content and hardware-specific performance data helps buyers decide if the handheld version is ready for their setup.
