Former Treyarch employee Gavin Goslin hurls another call for Activision to share the reissue wealth with the original Call of Duty Black Ops / Black Ops 2 devs. With old classics now making a climb on the US charts and raking in a lot of cash for the publisher it's yet again a clash between business money making vs dev money for the minds that created these franchises.
Treyarch veteran calls for retroactive wealth distribution as reissues climb US charts
Black Ops / Black Ops 2 dev Gavin Goslin seems to feel an array of emotions concerning the success of reissued games. Many hours were spent on grueling overtimes to get the originals right and he stresses how hard it was for himself and his team. Now reissued games sell for $40 in the US market and it's one reason for chart success.
Goslin claims there isn't anything major new in the reissued versions in comparison to the originals. He argues that huge bonuses are given to the higher-ups because these classic games are long lasting – but no riches go to original devs. This is where he feels it's time for some retroactive wealth distribution amongst original project developers.
Goslin's point is simple. Developers should be compensated when old project money is coming in from grueling overtimes to make the projects come to life. The publisher Activision hasn't commented publicly on such requests yet. But it's still an ongoing issue of how old game money gets distributed within the company.
